Understanding Anxiety in the Lulls
Lately, I’ve been paying closer attention to when I feel anxious. What I’ve noticed has been both surprising and enlightening.
I’ve always seemed to handle high-stress situations or busy times well. When there’s a lot on my plate—a packed schedule, multiple responsibilities, back-to-back deadlines—I tend to stay focused, productive, and relatively calm. But when there’s nothing urgent to tackle? That’s when my anxiety creeps in.
Why I No Longer Have FOMO About Skipping CrossFit in 2025
I’ll admit, when I made the decision not to compete in CrossFit in 2025 to focus on other sports, I had a little bit of FOMO. Competitive CrossFit has been a major part of my life, and stepping away felt like a tough call.
But after CrossFit announced its new gender policy, that FOMO evaporated just like CrossFit’s claim to be for everyone.
The Power of Vision Boards
This week marked the final session of our six-week New Year Jump Start Program, and what better way to celebrate our journey than by creating vision boards! Over the past five weeks, participants have explored their personal wellness goals, built sustainable habits, and engaged in deep discussions about growth and transformation. This final step brought everything together in a powerful, visual format to keep their aspirations front and center.
Discomfort is the key to growth
If change were easy, we wouldn’t be here discussing it. The truth is, change is hard—especially when it involves breaking long-standing habits. In the beginning, it often feels awkward, even unnatural. But learning to embrace discomfort and tackle hard things head-on is a powerful step toward growth.
Near Death Cardio Tuesday
Lately, I’ve been geeking out on the neuroscience of movement. If you’ve hung out with me for five minutes, you know I’m a huge nerd when it comes to the “biological why” behind what we do, feel, and think. It’s been super fascinating—and it’s even helped me understand why I seem to enjoy the most “awful” workouts.
Discipline over motivation…
A few years back, I saw this quote written on a napkin pinned to the wall in some diner kitchen. It was so random, but it caught my eye:
"Discipline will take you places motivation can't."
At first, it was just words. But for some reason, it stuck with me.
Everything is better with sleep…
Sleep is often overlooked, yet it is arguably the single most influential factor affecting every other aspect of wellness. No other activity plays such a crucial role in our physical, mental, and emotional health. Here are my top five favorite sleeping tips:
Goal Setting Tips
The start of a new year often brings a sense of renewal and the desire to set New Year’s resolutions. It’s a natural time to reflect on the past year’s achievements and challenges while looking ahead with fresh optimism. However, by the sixth week of the year, many resolutions are abandoned. This happens largely because goals are often too ambitious or vague, lacking a clear plan for success. As motivation wanes and life’s demands take priority, consistency becomes a challenge, leading to frustration and giving up. As you set your goals for 2025, here are five tips to help you move past that six-week hurdle and stay on track.
My business card - Wellness Wednesday
I’ve seen this trend recently in the fitness space…
“My body is my business card.”
The general gist for those that are blessed enough to have missed this one is that a fitness professional’s value and effectiveness is tied solely to the way they look. (Yes, my synopsis is a little skewed 😊)
This is not a new trend. I have been dismissed more than once by people judging my knowledge, skill, and passion based on the way I look.
Invest - Wellness Wednesday
The phrase “Invest in Yourself” needs to die a fiery death!
We are going to hear this a lot in the coming weeks. Fitness professionals, gym owners, weight loss charlatans, clothing and beauty companies, and the like really like to use this marketing tool during the New Year.
It’s not that I hate the phrase because of the concept. We ABSOLUTELY should invest in ourselves way more often than we do!
Mindset - Wellness Wednesday
A Facebook memory popped up this weekend about my first day using a wheelchair. It was a crappy “hospital chair” that weighed 50 pounds and was in no way built for my specific needs. I talked about being angry at first and then quickly realizing that the wheelchair gave me the freedom to move around my house safely and relatively pain free for the first time in years. At the time I didn’t use the term “freedom” and at the time
I am proudly DISABLED
Have you ever noticed the linguistical gymnastics people do to avoid using the term disability?
The word 'disability' makes some people uncomfortable. Society has engrained in us that being disabled is a bad thing, a thing to be avoided, so we come up with all sorts of alternative words and feel good phrases to make the subject more palatable.
